Our Ofsted report is available here to view.  Please see the letter from Principal, Joss Hayes, below. We also urge you to take time to read the Ofsted report in its entirety.

Letter from the Principal

Dear Parent/Carer,

I enclose a copy of the very first OFSTED report for Route 39 Academy. It was an intense two days during which Jonathan Palk HMI thoroughly scrutinised all aspects of the academy. Although the overall grading is not as high as we would have wished for, it accurately reflects where we are on the journey. I am delighted that the inspector recognised the many good things about the Academy and in addition agreed with us about the areas we know still require improvement.

The inspector found the Route 39 Academy approach to the curriculum broad and interesting, providing a rounded education and setting students up well for their next steps. This is an important validation of the different approach that we take, compared to more traditional secondary education. He also recognised the strong relationships between staff and students and the contribution that this has towards their attitudes to school and engagement in learning. These aspects are the very reasons why we set up Route 39 Academy.

I would like to thank the inspector for praising my leadership and that of the senior staff and governors. He saw that together we we have forged a strong team with a relentless focus on high expectations. It is this strong leadership that will ensure that those areas still in need of improvement will be addressed swiftly and effectively. Indeed measures are already in place to do so.

As you know, the last two years have been a time of intense development and growth, as well as challenges. The staff commitment to Route 39 Academy throughout this journey, and the passion and drive that they show day in and day out is unwavering. The inspector noted that the quality of most students’ learning is improving quickly as a result of better teaching and the very positive relationships between teachers and students. I know that you, as parents, recognise and appreciate this.

We can now build upon our strong foundations and continue our rapid rate of improvement. As parents, you are an important part of this journey and I hope that you will continue to feedback to myself, the staff and the governors.

I would like to end by mentioning the young people of Route 39 Academy. They are truly remarkable and a joy to work with. It is wonderful to have this recognised so strongly in the report. I hope that they are proud of what they have achieved so far, as I am very proud of them.

Please read the report in full and let me know if there is anything that you wish to have clarified.

Yours sincerely,

Joss Hayes
Principal
